VELD - Morris+Company - a2o - TN+ awarded first prize for the transformation of the ILO building block
We are thrilled to announce that our team VELD - Morris+Company - a2o - TN+ (for landscaping) has won the architectural competition for the transformation of the ILO building block, co-organised by bouwmeester maitre architecte, for Whitewood part of the Cityforward's vision.
This exciting redevelopment of an urban building block in the European Quarter starts from a landscape based design to revive the valley of the Maelbeek. By reintroducing a sloped landscape, we want to add qualitative green space and improve the water management for this new mixed use project with offices, housing and community facilities. By opening up and activating the ground floor, the green space in the interior of the building block will also be visible from the adjacent streets improving thus the public space. The project includes a passage with access to the Metro that will create a more vibrant and dynamic public space. Our project focuses on preserving the heritage by respectfully integrating Polak's facades into the new development, merging historical significance with contemporary innovation.
